Following the completion of the restoration/preservation, ICAT can provide aftercare too. Textiles are really quite fragile materials and, above all, tapestries and wall coverings catch a lot of dust in just a single year. For tapestries and wall coverings, but also for other objects in long-term positions, maintenance contracts can be entered into. Objects are inspected annually or biannually for mechanical damage or damage caused by insects or moulds. The textile is relieved of the surface dust and small repairs can be performed directly. A written report of the inspection is prepared to record the condition of the textile and to facilitate comparison with the previous periodic maintenance. This allows for premature action if changes occur in the condition of the object.
